Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood located in the West Island of Montreal is one of those "sleepy" place. The people who aren't familiar with this term frequently think that it's an island that's west of Montreal however, this part of West Island is home to all things from the City of Lachine west. It is often cited as the birthplace of Amanda Brugel but while that may be true, her time there was short. Brugel grew-up in Courtice close to Oshawa, Ontario. Early ambitions were to become a dancer. However, a growth increase caused her to surpass her dance partners she was able to have. In a recent interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I'm 6 feet, 1 inch." The moment I outgrew any male partner then I slowed down. A lot of former dancers go on into acting. In Brugel's situation, it was a suggestion from a high school drama teacher that encouraged her to go in that direction. Her teacher suggested she audition for the role of Anne for their school's annual production. She was the teacher who suggested that she go after a role in the annual school production. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she enrolled in York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in the year 2000. In the past 20 years, her work has been featured on both the small and large screen. She gained the most fame when she was offered the part as Rita in the award-winning television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian cast member in the season 1 of the series and only appeared on occasion.
